Double National Bambino Karting Champion Noah Cronje put in a gritty driving performance this past weekend to claim three podium finishes to head into the second half of the MSA National ROK Cup Championship season third in the championship.
Cronje finished third overall at Formula-K Kart Circuit on Saturday following an inspired drive that saw him claim the runner-up position in the opening heat ahead of two third-place finishes in Heats 2 and 3.
A front-row start alongside championship leader Logan Billau filled the Pretoria driver with confidence ahead of his best finish on the day, equalling his runner-up placings at the opening round. In the remaining two heats, the Sparco brand ambassador finished behind Billau after battling for the runner up position. While the points remain provisional until confirmed by MSA, Cronje has closed the gap with the leader and is now nine points behind.
“The team was fantastic and were able to turn around the pace issues we suffered here two weeks ago. I can’t thank them enough. We have made huge strides today; our quickest lap was just 0.378 seconds off the best race time set today. As a racer, you want to compete with the best equipment allowing you a fair chance at challenging for the win. So I am chuffed that we could mix it with Kayde (Cornofsky) and Logan (Billau) today. As a team we need to build on this momentum now and hopefully we can achieve that maiden win soon,” said Cronje.
Round 3 of the MSA National ROK Cup Championship resumes on 4-5 August in Cape Town at the Killarney International Raceway. Cronje will, however, be back at Formula-K competing in the MSA Northern Regions ROK Karting Championship on 8 July.
