The third round of the 2023 GTC Championship took place at Zwartkops Raceway this past weekend (20 May) and Josh Le Roux experienced all the highs and lows that motorsport has to offer.
Josh put in a solid qualifying performance, placing his Audi S3 on the 3rd row of the grid. He had a good start to the race and quickly found himself in 4th place. He held onto the leaders and looked like he was in for a great result, when disaster struck.
The fan belt on his Audi snapped, causing Josh to go off the circuit and into a sand trap. Fortunately, the sand trap did its job and Josh was not injured. Luckily, the car wasn’t badly damaged either and the team were able to make repairs between heats and get Josh back out for race two.
Josh started 5th on the grid for race two. He had a solid start maintaining his position to the flag.
“I am slightly disappointed with not being able to finish race one, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. A massive thank you to my team for getting the car ready for heat two,” commented Josh.
“I had a solid second race and every lap I get in the car adds to my saloon car experience, which is vital for my future endeavours. The 2023 season has and continues to be a learning curve, but I am grateful for this opportunity and thankful to have so much support,” he concluded.
The next round of the championship will take place at Aldo Scribante in Gqeberha on 17 June.
