On 13 May, the MSA Northern Regions ROK Karting Championship held its third round in Benoni. Diego Antunes impressively secured a top-five position in the highly competitive Kid ROK class.
Antunes, a young driver from Johannesburg, successfully graduated to the Kid ROK class after winning the Northern Regions Bambino title in the 2022 season. Although Antunes faced some challenges during the recent karting weekend, he persevered and finished fifth overall after competing bravely in all three heats.
Antunes, supported by TrevParWorld, is recognised for his unwavering determination and perseverance on the race track. During the first heat, he managed to fend off Alanzo Dias to secure sixth place. Antunes faced tough midfield competition in the following two heats and ultimately finished fifth in both races, trailing Noah Cronje.
Diego’s father, Rui Antunes, acknowledges that they have yet to reach their desired level of performance. However, he has understood that pushing Diego unnecessarily will not be beneficial. Like Bambinos, Diego will eventually find his rhythm and improve his speed. Currently, they focus on providing him with a strong-performing kart. Regardless of the outcome, they are always proud of him and want him to enjoy his time racing.
Antunes thanks his sponsors and team for their unwavering support. He will return to the Formula-K Kart Circuit on 27 May for the second national round of the MSA ROK Cup Karting Championship.
