It was an impressive return to the CompCare Polo Cup this weekend for Farhaan Basha as the QVWI Motorsport driver finished in the Top-5 overall classification at the Joburg Kyalami 9-Hour event on 23-25 February.
Backed by QVWI Motorsport for 2023, Thursday saw two official practice sessions where Basha placed second and third, respectively. Qualifying commenced on Friday morning, where an unfortunate Basha battled a gear-linkage issue. The former GT SuperCup driver, however, found a temporary solution to the problem and recorded the eighth quickest time around the iconic South African circuit.
Following a solid start to his race on Friday, Basha moved up two places to finish in sixth after a safety car interrupted eight laps. After the opening race, he said: ” We didn’t have the best qualifying this morning. The second gear seemed troublesome, and I used a few laps to try and understand the problem. Regardless, I pushed and started in eighth today. After a good start, there was an incident, and the safety car was out. We lost three or four laps before racing under the green. I made up a few positions, so I’m happy we could move forward. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.”
Saturday morning’s second and final weekend race saw the Johannesburg driver start from the second row of the grid in fourth. Despite losing the position, Basha showed his tenacity by reclaiming the position and taking the chequered flag in a respectable fourth.
“Happy with the result, although I feel if I were not fighting for the fourth position, we could have closed the gap to the front runners and maybe challenged for the podium. But all in all, great to be back in Polo Cup. Grateful to have QVWI on board for the season and hope we can improve going forward. The car is generally good, and we need to extract its best performance.”
QVWI is an exciting new digital lifestyle consumer electronics brand set to take the market and race circuit by storm! So keep a lookout for the brand at a retailer near you. Basha will return for Round 2 of the championship on 17-18 March at the Killarney International Raceway, Cape Town.
