Centurion driver Luhan De Wet scored a hat-trick of podiums at Formula-K Kart Circuit this weekend to place third at Round 3 of MSA’s Northern Regions Rotax Karting Championship.
De Wet, who arrived at the Benoni circuit as the championship leader, qualified in second during the morning session. A brief tussle for second over the opening laps of Heat 1 with Luke du Toit would see the De Wet Automotive Performance Service & Repairs-backed driver cross the finish line as the runner-up.
Heat 2 would again see De Wet and Du Toit battle for second over the opening laps, with De Wet losing out to finish in a lonely third. The final heat would see the Louis Leipoldt Grade 1 student end his day with another runner-up position after starting from third on the grid. After the day’s results, De Wet placed third for the day.
“It was a difficult day,” said De Wet. “I just didn’t have the pace of Adriaan (Steyn) and spent most of the day battling with Luke (Du Toit) in the initial stages of the heats. We won’t make any excuses. We were not fast enough today, so we have some work to do before the next race.”
De Wet thanks the support of De Wet Automotive Performance Service & Repairs, Duratec Batteries Centurion, Alunite Pretoria and NBR Racing. Next weekend will see De Wet in action at the same circuit in the Cadet class as part of the MSA Northern Regions ROK Karting Championship.
