Eight-car team set for extreme Rally Raid Desert Challenge
Red-Lined Motorsport is off to support a significant eight car entry in the Morocco Desert Challenge from 23 to 30 April. With eight of the South African produced race cars entered, Red-Lined is once again one of the biggest manufacturers on the start line.
Kyalami-based Red-Lined has made a significant mark in international rally raid motorsport with a spectacular start to 2023. The team scored a Dakar’s amateur FIA T1.1 class 1-2 in January, before another 1-2 in FIA T1 in the opening South African Rally Raid round, where Red-Lined also had the most cars entered. Another Red-Lined VK56 went on to win the T1 category at last month’s Moroccan Tuareg Rally.
“Together with our European Partners Desert Foxx Racing, we are off to support an eight-car entry in the Morocco Desert Challenge next week,” team principal Terence Marsh confirmed. “The second biggest rally raid event in the world after the Dakar, the Morocco Desert Challenge is a truly daunting event with eight stages and more than 3,000 km of racing through the most challenging of desert terrain.
“There is a huge entry for Morocco with over 90 cars entered alone. We will have a total of eight of our Red-Lined VK series race cars on the start line. Our youngest competitor is 18 years old racing a VK50 and our oldest is 73 years old competing in a VK56. We also have two lady navigators among our crews.”
The eight crews ready to race in Morocco include the Dutch crews of Dave Klaassen and Tessa Rooth in their DaklaPack Rallysport VK56 and Rients Hofstra and Evert Boersma in their Red-Lined Europe VK56. Belgian crews, Christian Femont and Christophe van Dessel, Vincent Vroninks and Kris Hendrickx, and Jan de Vos and David Jansen will race a trio of Desert Foxx Racing VK56 entries.
Belgian Stefan Carmans and Dutch notes man Arjan Van Tiel have entered a CSA Racing VK56, while two Dutch VK50 teams complete the Red-Lined line-up with the Desert Foxx Racing entry of Bernard Lemaire and Miranda van Middendorp, and 18-year-old Pim Klaassen and Jeffrey Spoor aboard the other DaklaPack Rally entry.
The eight-day Morocco Desert Challenge commences with documentation and technical checks at Agadir before the 38 km Prologue on Sunday 23 April. The 8-stage race then covers more than 3,000km of desert racing before finishing in and around the beautiful dunes of Merzouga.
“Throughout the event, we will be to provide management and technical support to our customers as the official manufacturer on the ground in Morocco,” Terence Marsh concluded. “This race is yet another tribute to Red-Lined Motorsport’s reputation as the go-to brand for serious gentlemen and semi-professional rally raid crews and we look forward to experiencing another incredible adventure in the Morocco Desert Challenge next week.”
