Overcast but pleasant weather conditions greeted the 206 entries for the third round of the Lime Property Management Power Series at the Killarney International Raceway on Saturday 12 April 2025. Traditionally the start of the Cape winter and the normal unpredictable track conditions, but is also benefits those who are prepared to face the challenge and gives talented racers in lesser powered machines the opportunity to shine.
Pirelli MGA Racing Clubman – Classic – Breakfast Run 2×9 Laps
Francois Kritzinger (77 Suzuki GSXR750) started from pole and led Zander Taljaard (888 Honda CBR600RR) across the line by just 0.05sec for the closest finish of the day with Jamie Hall in third spot (65 MGA Suzuki). Wessel kruger kept the front wheel of his Classic 163 Suzuki GSXR750J on the ground long enough to finish fourth with Wayne Gresse (95 Kawasaki ZX10R) fifth and Juan Momberg (9 Motorwise Suzuki GSXR750) sixth.
Heat two started in extremely wet conditions and seven of the fourteen entries opted not to race. Jamie Hall came well prepared and used his wet tyres to great effect enroute to victory from Wayne Gress, Zander Taljaard, Juan Momberg and Wessel Kruger.
Overall the order then Jamie Hall (Classic SBK) winning from Zander Taljaard (Clubman 600), Wayne Gresse (Clubman 1000), Juan Momberg (Clubman 1000), Francois Kritzinger (Clubman 600) and Wessel Kruger (Classic SBK). In the Breakfast Run category the order remained Gerhard Joubert (47 Triumph Daytona 675), Hannes Jansen (23 Suzuki GSXR750) and Mario Ferreira (Cagiva Raptor 1000).
Pirelli V8 Masters 2×8 Laps
Rui Campos and Sean Moore spoiled their front row advantage by getting too robust and both dropped way down the order to allow Mark Ridgway to win heat one from Alister Brown, Gary Thomson, Menno Parsons, Ian Parsons and Sean Moore.
Heat two saw Mark Ridgway claim anther solid victory from Sean Moore, Rui Campos, Menno Parsons, Gary Thomson and Stuart Spooner.
The overall order Mark Ridgway (53 GetWorth APV 347is) from Gary Thomson (17 APV 347is), Menno Parsons (69 Master Power Technologies APV 347is), Sean Moore (73 Ziegler Logistics APV 347is), Stuart Spooner (55 APV 347is) and Alister Brown (22 NAC Helicopters APV 347is).
Kaltron Supercars 2×8 Laps
Andrew Moffitt and Glen Phillips proved to be very entertaining until Andrew “leaned” Glen into the wall almost in front of the new pit complex. No action was taken and Andrew Moffitt (39 Greymo Construction) was acknowledged as the heat winner from Glen Phillips (33). Brad fenner (9 Pro Oil) third, Nashrene Schloss (24 VCIB) fourth, Shane Boscombe (18 Lime Property Management) fifth and Leon Chetty (15 Dynamic Cleaning) sixth.
Heat two ran without Phillips and it looked like a repeat of one until everyone fell over each other into Hoals Hoek with Kyle Hallick (31 Pro Oil) victorious from Brad Fenner, Robin de Vos (36 Armaguard), Andrew Moffitt, Nashrene Schloss abd Leon Chetty.
Overall the order being Andrew Moffitt from Brad Fenner, Nashrene Schloss, Leon Chetty, Robin de Vos and Shane Boscombe.
Bejo Trustees Formula Libre 2×10 Laps
Byron Mitchell (21S Dolphin Engineering VW Reynard FVW) simply stormed away to win from a returning Dee Jay Booysen (20S The Burner Factory VW Reynard FVW) with Richard Carr (49V ERA Racing Rhema 2) claiming third overall. Dee Jay back for the first time having rebuilt his FVW Reynard and he almost blotted his day by spinning the car on cold tyres coming out of Pertamina Fastron.
Benjack Phillips (17V Lantis) brought his understeering car home fourth overall with James Beaumont (21V iSquared Technologies Forza) fifth and Joshua Smit (83 S&S Racing Rhema 2) in sixth overall.
Pirelli Seal Pro Winelands SBK – SBK Challenge – Masters – 600 MC 2×8 Laps
Slade van Niekerk (111 Project 60 Kawasaki ZX10R) sportingly stopped for a chat in Pertamina Fastron when the front wheel ran out of traction allowing Ronald Slamet (68 RSRA Yamaha R1) to win heat one from a determined Jonny Towers (17 Missile Motorcycles Honda CBR600), Malcolm Rapson (46 Racebase Suzuki GSXR1000), Mark van den Berg (96 Suzuki GSXR1000), Ethan Diener (3 The Mag Workshop Yamaha R6) and Michael du Toit (99 Yamaha R1).
Heat two saw Slade van Niekerk leading Ronald Slamet, Malcolm Rapson, Jonny Towers, Mark van den Berg and Michael du Toit across the line. Overall the laurels went to Ronald Slamet with Malcolm Rapson second, Jonny Towers third, Mark avn den Berg fourth, Michael du Toit fifth and Ethan Diener sixth.
Heat two stopped when Daniel Frost (28 CHW Design Honda CBR1000) was skittled off into the scenery going into Pertamina Fastron by Ethan Diener (3 The Mag Workshop Yamaha R6).
BMW CCCT Series 2×8 Laps
Mansoor Parker (46B Jive BMW E46 M3 Turbo) and Anwar Levy (45C Jive BMW E46 M3 Turbo) shared the two heat wins with Mansoor taking overall honours whilst Levy had to accept seventh overall.
Weylin Volschenk the surprise in second place with his neat 52D IMC-SA BMW E30 330i and Marco Retter in third with a stand-in 50E MDR Racing BMW 328i. His regular monster still minus brakes for this weekend.
James King almost gave spectators hope by at least sliding the tail of his 7E Kings Auto Body Shop BMW E36 M3 on occasion. A filed of Rally X drivers and nobody used the wet conditions a s good reason to drive sideways – they just do not make them like Werner Koekemoer anymore ……
Dillon Joubert tried but ran off the track before recovering to fifth overall in his 444D Powder Coating World BMW E46 330i. Connor Kilbride another who struggled enroute to sixth overall in his 142E Racing Spirit BMW E36 328i.
Laude Classic Cars 2×8 Laps
Biggest and most varied field of cars on track for the day and the unpredictable track surface made racing swing in favour of the driver rather than power and that always make the racing on track interesting. Trevor Momberg is rarely phased by conditions other than who might be threatening his position on track and the 1B All Scale Ford Capri 3.4 V6 eventually took a well deserved overall victory in both wet and dry conditions.
Brian Evans made it a true blue Ford day by placing his rapid 441B Cape Eye Lser Ford Escort MkI second overall with Michael Hitchcock recovering to third overall on the dry second heat surface in his 67A Cross Cape Forklift Services Ford Mustang V8. Louis Powell making his racing comeback in the replica 151A Meissner Ford Escort MkI had a brilliant day with second place in the wet first heat and fourth overall.
Wayne Lötter another who thrived in the wet to finish 5th overall in his 120C Lotspeed Ford Escort MkI and the top six completed by Bruce Avern-Taplin in his extremely quick 77B Toyota Corolla Sprinter 1.8. Ian Richards seventh in his new 64C VW Scirocco certainly caught the ye whilst Grant Fourie really impressed in 8th overall with his 22D DGG Laser Design VW Golf MkII GTi.
Father and son Hutchings have decided to swop cars for the season and Trevor Hutchings and Grant Fourie had a really entertaining tussle in their respective Golf GTi entries. Many interesting combinations present on a very demanding surface. Ferdi Mouton ninth overall in his 68B Cross Cape Forklift Service Ford Mustang V8 and the top ten completed by Robert Rowe in his 11C Veldt Reared BMW E30 325iS.
Watching the enormous 26X Ford Fairlane V8 of Ferdi van Niekerk Jnr follow the Beemer of Rowe through Pertamina Fastron an intimidating sight and Boetie van Zyl proved pretty impressive in his 72D Ford Fairmont V8 whilst the sound of the Robin Forbes 171 B Chevrolet Corvette Stingray V8 certainly catches your ear.
Kaltron Fine Cars 2×8 Laps
Struggling for numbers the weather certainly did not assist the Kaltron Fine Cars but a consistent run by Dewald Lambert (58 VW Beetle) saw him take the honours overall and on Index of Performance. Natasha Tischendorf (285 VW Jetta Cli) second, Justin Brown (41 Rob Tissington Austin Healey Sprite) third and Sandra Bekker (Zack Groenewald Motors BMW E36 325i) fourth. Arnold Lambert ffith in his neat 28 Paint Chemistry VW Scirocco.
BATT Tech STC 650 – SSP 300 MC 2×9 Laps
Another race that suffered due to inconsistent track conditions when 5 riders opted not to start the wet second heat.
Nicholas Hutchings (72 HSC racing Suzuki SV650) taking overall honours from Max Munton (14 SunScan Kawasaki ER650) after a great duel. Raymond Alexander (11 Rayder Cycles Kawasaki Ninja 400) capitalising on the absence of the bigger machines to claim third overall and in fourth it was lady rider Elmé Mostert (94 Samurai Racing Suzuki SV650). Mitch Robinson (71 Mag Workshop Kawasaki Ninja 399) fifth and Bradley Mustoe (07 KTM RC390) sixth.
Paul Medell (5 Trac Mac Kawasaki ER650) and Adrian Solomon (4 Pool King Kawasaki ER650) enjoyed a brilliant scrap for third and fourth in heat one but opted not to race in the wet second heat.
Thermo Fires Clubman Saloons 2×8 Laps
Steven Heydenrych enjoy little threat in the 1A Origen Oils Nissan Skyline R32 and cruised to victory in tricky conditions whilst Sahen Smith did well to finish second in his 22A Truckport Logistics BMW E36 Turbo. Jaco Lambert used the nimble handling of his 29B Paint Chemistry VW Polo 1.8 to good effect to claim third overall whilst visiting Namibian driver, Mathys Pretorius, impressed in fourth overall on just his second visit to Killarney in his 790X Namibia Lubricants VW polo Turbo.
Veterans Gary Smith (71B Truckport Logistics BMW E36) sixth in and Francois “Trappies” van Tonder (44C FOD Marketing VW Polo 6) seventh. Dillon Joubert (444X Powder Coating World BMW E46 330i) eighth, David Vermaak (27D AbSorbItAll BMW E36 M3) ninth and the top ten completed by Steve Griffin-Wintle in his very interesting mid engined 37X Steve’s Auto Clinic Ford Escort Mk5.
APi Property Group GTi Challenge 2×8 Laps
Schalk Geldenhuys (10A G&A Motorsport VW Polo 6R) have certainly been knocking on the door for some time and starting on Pole with 1min24.701 served notice on his intentions for the day as he was 0.676 seconds clear of Nathan Victor (71A Summit Racing VW Polo 6R) with John-Henri Vaughn (32A MAPS Racing VW Polo 6R) third on the grid.
Heat one saw almost the exact same time difference past the chequered flag after eight laps with John-Henri Vaughn third, Shane Williams (46A Würth VW Polo 6R) fourth, Ian Kapp (65A Hydracor Hydraulic VW Polo 6R) fifth and Oliver Hintenaus (76A Coastal Engineering VW Polo 6R) sixth. Oliver trying a new no brake entry to Pertamina Fastron T5 which almost saw him flip the Polo.
Mohammed T Khalfey (14B MAD Performance VW Polo 6) claimed class B from Nur Abass (8B Spice Mecca VW Polo 6) with Zac Laden (64B Incledon VW Polo Sedan) third, Brent van der Schyff (69B Magmaster VW Polo Classic) fourth, Raaziegh Harris (19B Cool Touch Racing VW Polo 6) fifth and Faizal Jacobs (40B Century Karting VW Polo 6) sixth. The latter two both incurring 30sec Jump Start penalties.
Class C saw Flash Finneran, Daniel Munna, Ejaaz Majiet and Tristan Joubert add 30sec penalties to their result with Jump Starts which left Ross Schroder (16C Api Property Group VW Golf MkI) ahead of Adriano Ferroli (Ferroli Performance Centre VW Golf MkI) and Nasser Gamieldien (37 VW Golf MkI).
Heat two and Schalk Geldenhuys simply drilled them again with a faultless drive ahead of Nathan Victor, Oliver Hintenaus, Shane Williams, John-Henri Vaughn and Ian Kapp. Williams later excluded when his car was deemed too low. Nur Abass beat Mohammed T Khalfey home in class B with Faizal Jacobs third, Weylin Volschenk (52B IMC-SA VW Polo 6) fourth, Zac Laden fifth and Brent van der Schyff sixth.
Mark Fontini (31 Goch & Cooper VW Golf MkI) claimed Class C from Flash Finneran, Adriano Ferroli, Ross Schroder, Daniel Munna (33C APi Property Group VW Golf MkI) and Tristan Joubert (90C Powder Coating World VW Gol MkI).
Overall the order in Class A was Schalk Geldenhuys, Nathan Victor, John-Henri Vaughn, Shane Williams, Ian Kapp and Oliver Hintenaus. Class B Mohammed T Khalfey from Nur Abass, Zac Laden, Brent van der Schyff, Faizal Jacobs and Weylin Volschenk. Class C Ross Schroder from Adriano Ferroli, Flash Finneran, Ismaeel Davids, Daniel Munna and Tristan Joubert.
Spirit Invest Sport & GT Cars 2×10 Laps
Heat one was run in really pleasant conditions but heat two saw these rather challenging machines run into the worst conditions of the day when the rain really arrived in earnest and the race cut after just five laps.
Marcel Angel celebrating his return with a dominant overall victory in the 51S Autohaus Angle Ferrari 458 GT3 and he was followed home by Dawie Joubert in his 18B Wild Rose Gin VW powered Lotus Exige and Connor Kilbride in his 42A Racing Spirit BMW M3. Tristan de Nobrega slithered his way into fourth overall with the 70C Racing Spirit BMW M3 and in fifth spot it was Yanni Hatzi in the 28C Motul Nissan 200SX Turbo.
Divan Luzmore sixth in his 99C GT Clubsport Nissan 350Z and in seventh it was Simeon Penev in his 77C Nioro Plastics Nissan 350Z. Brett Swanevelder eighth in the 74D Weskus Drukkers Nissan 350Z. Juan Stander enjoyed a free shower enroute to ninth in his 29D Old Oil Boys Ligier JS52 and the top ten completed by Eric Salomon in his 23 Elf 23 Lotus 23 replica.
