Max Boshoff, racing under the Xtreme Racing Team banner, delivered an impressive performance at Round 2 of the National ROK Cup Karting Championship, held yesterday at the Killarney Kart Circuit in Cape Town. Heading into the event as the championship leader in the competitive Mini ROK class, Boshoff did not disappoint, securing the overall victory and further extending his lead in the title chase.
Boshoff kicked off the day in style, clinching victories in both Heat 1 and Heat 3 with commanding drives that showcased his racecraft and composure under pressure. Despite running into a few mechanical issues at the start that saw Max drop to the back of the field, the multiple WPMC Karting Champion passed half the field on the opening lap to put himself back in contention for the win. Two laps later he took up the lead which he held onto to take the first of two victories on the day.
Max ran into another mechanical issue at the start of the second heat and was forced to pull off ahead of the lights going out. Able to get going, Max was seven seconds behind the second-to-last driver at the completion of the opening lap. The recent Micro MAX national winner a few weeks prior, however, mounted a spirited recovery, fighting his way back to salvage a crucial seventh-place finish. The final heat would see Max take a lights-to-flag victory, record the fastest racing lap of the day and claim the overall win.
“It was a tough race in Heat 2 after being forced to pull off, but I just focused on staying calm and making up as many positions as I could,” Max said after the final heat. “Winning at home and extending the championship lead means a lot to me and the team. A huge thanks to Xtreme Racing Team for the support all weekend!”
With another strong haul of points, Max maintains his lead in the Mini ROK standings as the championship heads to Celso Scribante Kart Track, Gqeberha for Round 3.
