Dunlop signs as South African V8 SuperCars title sponsor
Dunlop Tyres has not only added the thundering V8 SuperCars to its dominant portfolio of South African circuit racing series, but it is now also the official title sponsor of the Dunlop V8 SuperCars.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome the South African V8 SuperCars to the Dunlop Racing Family,” Sumitomo Rubber South Africa Marketing Manager Joanne de Freitas confirmed. “Not only is the Rolling Thunder now running on Dunlop Tyres, but the series is now also known as the Dunlop V8 Supercars.”
This move completes Dunlop’s takeover of leading South African circuit racing categories. “Dunlop V8 Supercars now adds to the Dunlop shod BMW M Performance Parts, ATE VW Challenge and DOE Formula Vees already racing in the Regional Extreme Festival,” Joanne de Freitas adds. “That’s in addition to Dunlop also exclusively suppling tyres to all the National Extreme Festival powered by Coca Cola car categories.”
Dunlop provides racing rubber to the Extreme Supercars driven by Dunlop, South African Touring Cars and SATC SupaCup, Astron Energy Polo Cup, the new Investchem MSA4 single seaters, Volkswagen Rookie Cup and Toyota Gazoo Racing series as part to Dunlop’s full commitment to the circuit sport.
“There is no doubt that racing improves the Dunlop breed and that our efforts on track make all the difference to the products we sell every day for the road,” de Freitas concludes. “The Dunlop V8 SuperCars is one of the final pieces of the puzzle that now sees every significant South African Championship circuit race won on Dunlop Tyres.”
Dunlop commenced its involvement with the V8 SuperCars with a secret test when Terry Wilford tested a set as a GTX entry in racing conditions at the penultimate round of the 2024 championship. The test proved a great success and the rest is now history.
The 2025 Dunlop V8 SuperCars season already commenced at Zwartkops on Saturday 1 March. Warren Lombard put his PepBoys Mustang on pole before winning the first race from veteran Ben Morgenrood’s GTX Mustang and Thomas Reib’s Café 9 Lumina. Reib took the second reverse grid race win from Lombard and Morgenrood. Antonie Marx’s ReMan Holden and debutant Wayne Spicer’s Wellness Jaguar shared the GT2 wins.
The all-Dunlop National Extreme Festival starts at Killarney in Cape Town this Saturday 8 March before the Dunlop V8 SuperCars join in at the blockbuster second round National and Regional Festival at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 11 and 12 April.
