Rain on Saturday immediately dampened the anticipation of a good turnout for the Legends Unite meeting at the 18 March 2023 Darling Rally but fortunately weather is considered part of the sport of rallying and the need to anticipate and adapt comes naturally.
What a pleasant surprise to see more than 35 representatives of years gone by arrive at Darling Brew from early morning. Yes, they are showing signs of maturity, settling for a warm cup of coffee and breakfast. The enthusiasm remained though and it became even more apparent when some simply could not be bothered to join in for the 10h30 group photograph, opting instead to stay out and spectate! If ever there had been a more knowledgeable crowd present at a local event ……
It would not be fair to highlight anyone present as everyone present made this a very special occasion and yes, we thought of those who would dearly have loved to be present.
To see the faces light up when they eventually recognised each other, the many who was that again, gosh I never recognised him and great to see him again heard all morning was special.
There is a very real chance that the following list would prove to be incomplete, but let it be known that the spirit of rallying is alive and well in the Western Cape and compliments to each and everyone who pitched in the name of rally friends – it will always be a special bond!
In no particular order Piet Loubser, Serge Damseaux, Innes Murudker, Adrie Stander, Aggie Ströh, Andries Keyser, André Cleenwerck, Billy Thorpe, Carl Peskin, Clinton Sassman, Cobus Edas, Cobus Vrey, Dave Smeda, Derek Sturgess, Derrick Benjamin, Dirkie Boonstra, Dirkie Kotzé, Eric Joseph, Ernst Viljoen Snr, Eugene Marais, Hilton Auffray, Ria Marais, Herman Jonker, Howard Daniels, Nigel Dodgen, Nishaad Murudker, Johan Barnard, Robert Marle, Mark Palmer, Marthilda Boonstra, Neels van Wyk, Rossouw Eksteen, Salvan Moodley, Thorsten Pey, Pierre van der Westhuizen.
To Roxy Young (Darling Brew), Christophé Pichon and team a hearty thank you for your assistance in making this a pleasant experience for all.
It will happen again!
