Tjaden Tromp successfully concluded his motorsport season this past weekend with a strong, if challenging, performance at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. As the youngest competitor in the event, Tjaden showcased his skills in his Formula Vee in all four races alongside several impressive single-seater cars that served as the support class for the South African Endurance Series’ 9-Hour race.

Even with limited time on the circuit, Tjaden showcased remarkable speed from the beginning. Fueled by determination, the teenager pushed the car to its absolute limits, achieving an impressive fourth-fastest time in qualifying. On Friday, growing increasingly confident in the car’s ability, Tjaden pushed from the start of Race 1, making up a position to finish an impressive third. In Race 2, Tjaden faced a disappointing setback when his gearbox malfunctioned. Able to continue, though, he lost valuable lap time and was passed by several drivers to finish in sixth.

On Saturday, Tjaden was determined to make up for Friday afternoon’s result after the team had repaired the gearbox. Tjaden made up two positions, starting from fourth to finishing an exceptional second, his best weekend result. After moving up an early position in Saturday’s final race, the gearbox issue returned, leaving him with limited gears. Despite this setback, he persevered and continued racing, showcasing maturity beyond his years. The Bapsfontein resident crossed the finish line, achieving a commendable fifth place. In the weekend’s standings, Tjaden finished third overall to cap off an outstanding weekend and a solid season.

“Despite the setbacks, I could stay focused and bring the car home, even if it wasn’t in the position I deserved. The team was exceptional this weekend, expertly setting up the car and repairing the gearbox after I encountered some issues. Racing here is truly a privilege that not many have, and once again, I’m genuinely grateful for the experience. A big shout-out to my sponsors for their continued support. Thank you also to everyone who has stood by my side this season,” said Tjaden.
