The penultimate round of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships took place at Formula-K Raceway on Saturday, October 12. Once again, the drivers from the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA) showcased their excellence by achieving podium results and securing heat victories.
In the DD2 class, Jason Coetzee narrowly missed the overall class victory by just two points after securing a hard-fought runner-up position. Coetzee finished second in Heats 1 and 2 before ending the day with an impressive win in the final heat. His stablemate, Karabo Malemela, finished fourth overall, following Coetzee over the line in the first and second heats before securing fourth place in Heat 3. Coetzee has now extended his championship lead, with Malemela moving into second place in the championship.
Senior MAX driver Kent Swartz maintained his position at the top of the points standings after claiming the overall win on Saturday in another closely contested regional round. Swartz kicked off his Saturday with a fourth-place finish before dominating the second heat to claim victory. In the final heat, he crossed the finish line as the runner-up, solidifying another solid performance.
Emma-Rose Dowling dominated the Junior MAX class on Saturday, starting every heat from the pole position while setting the day’s fastest lap. Despite facing a post-race penalty in Heat 1 and an electrical issue in Heat 2, she never gave up and secured the final race win with a fifth overall classification.
2024 National Mini MAX Champion Tshepang Shisinwana’s hopes of achieving the double were somewhat dashed after he was excluded from the opening race result following a technical infringement. Undeterred, he rallied to secure third place finishes in the remaining two heats, showcasing his unwavering determination to overcome setbacks.
The various championships are still up for grabs, with one double-point scoring round remaining. The event is scheduled for a Zwartkops Raceway finale on November 30.
