Alonzo de Oliveira emerged victorious at the Formula-K Raceway this weekend, extending his lead in the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships over his Bambino competitors.
After missing out on the pole position, Alonzo lined up next to his championship rival for the opening heat. After tangling with a competitor at the start, he lost several positions before fighting his way back up the order to finish in a courageous third. Showing the fighting spirit that he has become known for, the Johannesburg driver went on to claim victory in the two remaining heats to add to his 12 victories this season.
“I’m happy with the result,” said Alonzo. “Race 1 was a little tough at the start, but I managed to fight back to a podium finish. From there I just kept my head down and tried to go as fast as I could on every lap. Well done to Sebastian on a good drive this weekend. He really made it difficult but we get to do it again soon.”
The championship’s final round will be held at Zwartkops Kart Raceway on 30 November.
