Andrew fills off weekend gap with a race win

Most race drivers would take a rest weekend between major race weekends a fortnight apart. Not Cape Town’s Andrew Rackstraw. Instead of taking time out from his Carrera Cup GP Porsche 911 program, Rackstraw strapped into his Formula Ford Spectrum, put it on pole position and sped to and sped to overall victory in Saturday’s Brands Hatch United Formula Ford races.

“Wow, what a fun weekend!” Andrew admitted. “It’s important that I keep sharp for my Walter Hayes Formula Ford Festival shot at the end of the year, so with a few other leading drivers coming out the woodwork to do the same in a competitive 21 car field, we thought why not give Brands a go at this weekend? Qualifying was dry and then wet and pole oh-so-close, but I took it by five-hundredths of a second.

“I got away well, but Jason Smyth got the better of me on lap 2 and we had a great dice from there each side of a safety car period. We were side by side for much of the last laps and Jason just pipped me in the end. The second race was a bit more dramatic as the rain started during the race, before Jason hit trouble, and I held Morgan Quinn off to take the day.

“Best of all, it was a positive weekend, which now allows me to head for my Knockhill Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain appointment on the front foot this weekend. Bring it on!”
