DD2 Masters driver Carlo Gil makes his third appearance of the season, and his second Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championships start after a brief break from the sport due to work commitments. The Johannesburg businessman, fresh from his first national appearance at Formula-K Raceway a few weeks ago, will head to Zwartkops Kart Raceway for the first time this season as he competes in the premier Rotax class for drivers older than 32 years.
Gil, backed by BluGil and Aumic Engineering, has shown steady progress throughout his return but admits that he still needs loads of time in the seat to be competitive.
“It’s great to be back racing again, and I’ve really missed it. Unfortunately, work has kept me away, and I could not commit to any of the early-season events. Now that I am able to, I realise that to be competitive I will have to spend way more time in the seat and doing laps. It’s the best way to train and just makes you more at ease with the kart. I also haven’t been around the Zwartkops circuit in a while so will need to familiarise myself once again. I’m sure it will be another great event and I can’t wait to get out there,” said Gil.
Saturday’s program will commence with a warm-up session, qualifying, and three race heats. Entry to the circuit is free, and spectators are encouraged to attend.
