Micro MAX rookie Luhan de Wet makes his first appearance at the Formula-K Raceway this season as Round 3 of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge heads to Benoni this weekend, marking the start of the second half of the national Rotax championship season.

Following a less-than-desired start to his 2024 season at Killarney’s opening round, Luhan improved at the next round at Zwartkops to be ranked sixth in the championship. Trailing the leader by just more than 41 points, Luhan has a mountain to climb to challenge for the title in 2024. This weekend is thus crucial for the Centurion resident, who will have to be at his best to beat out some more favoured drivers in the class. The Xtreme Racing Team driver, however, is well aware of what lies ahead.

“I know it won’t be an easy weekend,” said Luhan. “This is a very closely-contested class, and as a rookie competing against drivers in their second and third seasons in this class, I have my work cut out for me. All I can do is give my best and hope it will be enough on the day. I have the team backing me and a host of support.”

The action started on Thursday with an unofficial practice, followed by an official practice on Friday. Micro MAX qualifying is scheduled for 16:07 on Friday ahead of Saturday’s three race heats. And here’s the best part: entry is free, making this event accessible to all motorsport enthusiasts. We can’t wait to see you there!
