With the Highveld winter here, the third round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge (SARMC) heads to Benoni, Gauteng, where close to 100 competitors will battle it out for top honours at Formula-K Raceway this coming weekend.

Heading into the second half of the national Rotax karting season, Gauteng driver Alonzo de Oliveira is third in the Bambino points standings and eager to make up some of the ground lost at the opening round. While the pocket rocket from Glenvista has been dominating the Northern Regions competition, he has yet to record a win in this season’s national championship.

With two runner-up finishes at the last round held at Zwartkops Kart Raceway, Alonzo takes on the 850-metre A-layout of the Benoni circuit this weekend. Having not competed at the circuit this season, any form of home circuit advantage has been negated and will see a frantic battle for top honours.

The action started on Thursday with an unofficial practice, followed by an official practice on Friday. Bambino Qualifying is scheduled for 15:40 on Friday ahead of Saturday’s three race heats. Entry is free of charge, and spectators are welcome.

Alonzo thanks NBR Racing, S.Y. Meats Wholesale Butchery, Y2K Audio Germiston, MSLB Projects and Amigos Portugueses.
