Rookies to entertain as they learn the racing ropes

The 2024 Volkswagen Motorsport Rookie Cup has delivered close and exciting racing so far and it should be no different as the series designed to deliver future racing talent heads home to Aldo Scribante’s Extreme Festival for its third round on Saturday 29 June.

While its young gun former karting prodigy drivers may mostly hail from as far afield as Sandton up in Gauteng and Durban, the Rookie Cup’s Volkswagen Polos are built and prepared at the plant just up the road at Kariega, so there’s an extra incentive for the young guns to win this one.

Durbanite Dhivyen Naidoo took a Killarney double win first time out but it was Jozi lad Judd Bertholdt who topped the pops with both round 2 wins at Zwartkops. Uzair Khan is also from Durban and he’s out for his first Rookie Cup win, as is Gauteng lad Jayden Goosen, but so is their former karting rival Josh Moore from Gqeberha. So he’s perhaps most motivated to impress his home fans with a home town double for the team at Aldo Scribante.

“Our fearless Rookie Cup youngsters have delivered great racing action out of the top drawer while they have learnt and it should be no different at Aldo Scribante,” Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe concluded. “These young talents are learning as they continue to develop their skills in racing conditions and all are keen to impress the team at our home round this weekend.”

A crucial step up to the main circuit from kart racing, Volkswagen Rookie Cup trains recruits on every aspect of racing in a real-world competitive raceday realm. The syllabus covers it all, from driver fitness to physical and mental preparation, teamwork, data analysis and even dealing with television and media, while coaching them on every racing aspect.
