Mikel Bezuidenhout returns to Rotax karting this weekend as Round 4 of the Gauteng-based regional karting championship commences at Zwartkops Kart Raceway.
Following a challenging start to his 2024 Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship campaign, which saw the Johannesburg driver finish 10th overall, Mikel bounced back in fine form to finish as the overall runner-up at Round 2. The MTN Cosmo-net-supported teenager also recorded his maiden victory. Round 3 was again hosted at the Vereeniging Raceway, where Mikel finished fourth overall. Mikel heads into this weekend ranked third in the championship, eight points off the leader.
“Having just returned from Port Elizabeth for the ROK National, it will be a nice change to get back into the Senior MAX around Zwartkops. It’s a greater challenge with a larger field but also closer racing. So the margin for error is tiny as a mistake can cost you several places,” said Mikel.
While drivers will take to the circuit on Friday for practice, the action starts on Saturday with a Warm-Up Session (08:30) followed by a Qualifying Session (10:10). Three heats conclude the day’s racing with the first heat commencing at 11:34. Spectators are welcome, and entry is free.
Mikel is backed by MTN Cosmo-Net and Vivo Mobile South Africa.
