Well, great balls of fire Aashay Nagura!
His home track was alive with anticipation as this young driver stepped into the gauntlet that is his favourite place on earth, the Celso Scribante Kart Circuit in Port Elizabeth.
No longer in contention for the NATIONAL title after the unfortunate “ROCKGATE” at Vereeniging Kart Circuit two weeks prior, Aashay still held his head high, walking through the sea of drivers with confidence & determination for the weekend ahead.
With some outstanding pace in official practice the day before, Nagura was primed for success as he lined up on the grid for Qualifying with RPM teammate, Aaron Mason. The track, stretching 1002m in length, has a long standing reputation of being an abrasive and technical circuit – even more fun for this intrepid driver.
The crowd, watching with bated breath, were instantly on their feet with roaring pride for their young Gqeberha cub as he moved through his QUALIFYING with precision and came out tops with a P2 to start the bright winters day.
Race One saw NAGURA lead from the start with Cape Town’s Max Boshoff trying his level best to stay on pace and RKT’s Maddox Mason hot on his X-TREME heels. Sadly, all that glitters is not gold with Aashay falling short of the win for a “start infringement’ and a devastating time penalty of 5 seconds.
Never fear when Aashay is near. The kid took it all back in Race Two (and then some) with an orchestral drive that made beautiful music from beginning to end. Nothing and no-one could touch this rising talent with Boshoff finishing 5 seconds adrift of Nagura and Blignaut taking a third just behind him.
Nagura absolutely dominated Race Three like he was born to fly, astounding the crowd with his racing prowess. His signature green and purple helmet glistened in the PE sunshine and practically blinding his competition as he flew past the checkered flag to take his maiden NATIONAL victory at his home track.
