Mini ROK racer Kayde Cornofsky heads to the friendly city of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) later this week for the penultimate national round of the ROK Cup Karting Championship.
Kayde last competed at the Eastern Cape circuit in 2023 on his way to claiming the National Kid ROK Championship title, recording a hat trick of podiums. In 2024, Kayde’s national campaign did not get off to the best of starts in Cape Town, with the Johannesburg driver battling the midpack in what is often referred to as the most challenging class in the country. While the following round at the Vereeniging Kart Raceway saw improved results, it was not where he or the team wanted to finish. Kayde currently occupies sixth in the championship standings.
“I had a tough opener in Cape Town and was a lot more confident heading to Round 2 in Vereeniging. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan despite some good pace. But this weekend we are confident we can make up for some of the ground lost to the championship leader and will be pushing throughout the weekend, so for my championship, it’s an important round. Thank you to everyone for the support as usual including my sponsors who back me.”
It all kicks off on Friday with several practice sessions ahead of the all-important qualifying session on Saturday morning. Once the starting grids have been determined, three race heats will decide the day’s winner.
Kayde thanks Canario Cornofsky Attorneys, Calisto’s Restaurant, Allegiance Properties, Smith Garage, the 357 and the Xtreme Racing Team.
