Tjaden Tromp goes into the DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants mid-season break, his debut year, firmly placed in all three championships after a successful Round 4 weekend (7-8 June) at Zwartkops Raceway.

The Victron Energy South Africa brand ambassador and youngest driver in the series missed the season opener, effectively making this his third outing and his first at the Pretoria West circuit.

The wait to complete his first official session in the series still took a little longer on Friday. With academic commitments in the morning, Tromp arrived at the circuit with two of the four practice sessions remaining. Session 3 was brought to a premature halt due to an accident, leaving him one session to complete his setup. However, he quickly found his pace and took 11th place in Saturday morning’s qualifying session.

Both races saw him feature prominently in the midfield battles, holding his own to record 10th and 12th place in the two races. This resulted in 11th place in the event’s overall classification, based on aggregate times for competitors completing the full 22-lap distance.

Apart from the Motorsport South Africa championship results, where Tromp ranks 11th, Formula Vee South Africa also has two category-specific points tables. In the first, the Association Championship, Tromp holds third place while heading up the Rookie Class.

“We pushed hard, and our results showed it.” Said Tromp. “While this is not the outright best result we recorded, this weekend saw a significantly larger entry list than in Round 3, with us getting closer to the front. In a year where progress is our goal, progress was certainly made.”

Tromp’s next outing in the DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants championship will be Round 5, scheduled to take place at the Killarney International Raceway on 9-10 August. In 2023, he had a relatively short outing at the venue, including a Class Libre B win, on a weekend that marked his return to circuit racing following an eight-month break.
