Round 4 of the 2024 DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants championship this past weekend (7-8 June) at Zwartkops Raceway saw Chloe Stuart convert her early pace into a good result despite an issue in the first of the day’s two races.
The only female competitor in the series and Victron Energy South Africa brand ambassador participated in two of Friday’s latter three practice sessions. Despite the second of these being aborted early due to an incident elsewhere on the circuit, she gained nearly three seconds on her initial pace.
The practice day left her confident about Saturday’s business end of the weekend, which she started with 16th place on a capacity grid. However, a clutch failure sidelined her before she could back this up with a strong start in the first race.
This did not end her day, though. With a replacement part readily available, the team had her on the grid for the afternoon’s second race, allowing her to continue building her reputation of never giving up. Backing up the team’s efforts, she delivered a formidable 14th-place finish in the race.
With only one race completed, she did not feature on the overall classification based on the accumulated time for the full 22-lap distance.
Finding herself in joint 17th place on the Motorsport South Africa points table, the Formula Vee South Africa Association Points Table sees her eighth while she is second in the Rookie Class. The latter two championships are instated and managed by the series.
“When we face challenges, we face them head-on.” Said Stuart. “While our race day didn’t start as we hoped it would, we got back into it and salvaged a great result. With the car running fine, we could back up Friday’s pace gains with a competitive performance in the final race. This was certainly a weekend worth celebrating.”
Stuart’s next DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants outing will be in Round 5 of the series, starting the second half of the year at Killarney International Raceway on 9-10 August. She competed in a 2023 Formula Libre round at the circuit and took a Class Libre B runner-up spot and race win.
