PABAR VW Challenge ready for Pretoria VW Challenge warfare

The PABAR VW Challenge is locked and loaded for its midseason fourth round at the Pretoria Zwartkops Raceway’s Dunlop Winter Festival on Saturday 8 June. Race fans can expect nothing less than car wars on the twisty confines of the popular racetrack.

It’s a case of sibling rivalry in Class A, where brothers Bevin and Wayne Masters lead the way. Wayne’s Performance Masters Polo 6R is however looking to make up a little lost ground on Bevin’s CPS Warehouse version. Wayne has the additional hassle of Miguel Dias’ Performance Masters Polo on his title tail, with MDS Consulting lad Mydi Mfana, PSA Africa lass Nicole Lombard, and young Dean Ross’ Norbrake car all in there too.

It’s all even on top of the closest fought PABAR VW Challenge Class B. Mo Karodia’s Fast 5 Polo sedan and Stuart Mack’s turbo 3-cylinder litre Nathan’s Polo are tied on points at the top of that log. They sit just a few points clear of Durban Dubcorp lad Shiren Rajpaul, reigning class champion Ethan Coetzee’s JRT Racing Experience Polo, and two-wheeler convert Anthony Lessing’s Csol car. Former C champion Ian Walker is the dark horse with a decent points haul in spite of a wretched season so far in his Mellow Velo car. And never underestimate Bond Gallery lass Charisse Piazza Musso.

Platinum Wheels driver Jacques Hayes is worth an outside bet, Josh Wilford has come on leaps and bounds in his Coating Techniques entry, and Dewald Theron’s ARD car was impressive first time out last race. Fourbuy driver Stelio Nousias is always a factor when he races, as is AF fans lady driver Tyler Robertson. Add MLP brothers Adriaan and Martin de Beer, Eco Simply Solar racer Tinahe Ncube, Ross Campbell’s JRT Polo, Francis Aldrich’s VaporWorx version, and Jesus Saves’ Francois van Zyl.

It’s a case of youth versus experience in the Class C Brat Pack.16-year old duo Chris Tait’s GoPro and Judd Bertholdt’s Sizanzi Plastics Vivos have Goose Motorsport’s Andy Gossman as the older meat in a youth sandwich. Philip Croeser in his ATE Vivo, and JRT dad Mitch Coetzee are two more older men under youthful pressure from Insurisk trio Dimitri Zapheriou back flying the flag for brother Michael, and brothers Kyle and Cody Petersen, Rezcom driver Dino Smit, VMS lad Tyron Pillay, and Vishva Govender.

The PABAR VW Challenge car wars make for a great midwinter’s attraction alongside the rest of the Zwartkops Regional Festival highlights. Race organisers invite race fans to bring blankets to donate for charity, to warm the lives of the local needy. Another very good reason to make a date of it and get to the Dunlop Winter Festival at Zwartkops this Saturday on 8 June.

*Running on Dunlop tyres supported by ATS Motorsport Supplies, oiled by Habot Performance Lubricants, and stopped by ATE Brakes, PABAR VW Challenge also salutes partners, Platinum Wheels, Norbrake, Eco Simply Solar, Insurisk insurance brokers, Van der Linde Developments, MDS Consulting Engineers, FSS Logistics and galetti.co.za property.
