Tjaden Tromp’s second outing in the DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants Championship this past weekend (10-11 May) at Red Star Raceway saw him stepping onto the Round 3 podium.

Friday’s practice sessions saw the Victron Energy South Africa brand ambassador quickly find his pace to conclude the day confidently. This confidence was backed up when he set the eighth-fastest time in Saturday morning’s qualifying session.

In Race 1, Tromp jostled for position with Jaco Smit before the latter retired just after the half-distance mark. Tromp took a seventh-place finish on track, which is his best result to date. The second race saw him in a fierce midfield battle with an 11th-place finish.

The day’s overall results, calculated on the accumulated race time for both races, saw Tromp in seventh. In addition, the Formula Vee Association also runs a rookie class, where Tromp took the honours for the day while finishing as runner-up in the association championship. Both association results are only calculated following the completion of the race weekend.

“A solid weekend at Red Star (Raceway).” Said Tromp. “We were on the pace immediately and could focus on improving race lines at the technical circuit. Today was an excellent indication of our progress and paving the way for our future goals. Thank you to everyone who made this result possible.”

Tromp’s next DOE Formula Vee Partnered with CIM Lubricants outing will be Round 4 of the 2024 Championship, held at Zwartkops Raceway on 7-8 June.
