Mikel Bezuidenhout returns to the Zwartkops Kart Raceway this weekend following his recent participation at the African Karting Cup. Mikel will, however, as he did last year, be swopping karts to compete in the Senior MAX class as part of the Gauteng regional competition.
Following the announcement earlier this year that he will compete in the Investchem Formula 1600 single-seater championship, Mikel is set for a busy season with four karting championships alongside his main circuit debut.
Like many young drivers, Mikel aspires to pursue a career as a professional racecar driver and, like most before him, uses these platforms to prepare himself for the international stage. He knows that time is not on his side, as he only started racing three years ago. He shared his thoughts on 2024.
“This is a crucial season for me on my career path. Most drivers my age have had several years of experience behind them by now and have raced internationally a few times. I’m playing catch-up and trying to learn as quickly as possible. While I’ve improved immensely in karting, I now have to crack another challenge on the main circuit. Karting, however, will remain my foundation as it keeps me fit and sharp.”
You can catch Mikel on track on Saturday, where he is scheduled to qualify around 10:45 ahead of three race heats. MTN Cosmo-Net and Vivo Mobile South Africa back Mikel.
