On Saturday 13 January, the Zwartkops and Kyalami marshals gathered at the Zwartkop Track for their annual practical training, a necessary step to validate their MSA licenses. The day kicked off with simulated track events, where the marshals were able to practice their skills with the help of some competitors.
This included radio communications, flag waving, and handling incidents such as car breakdowns and accidents. In the afternoon, a guest speaker named Glen shared valuable knowledge on firefighting techniques, particularly focusing on the new “cold fire” foam that will be introduced in motorsport this year.
The marshals had the opportunity to try out the new foam as well as practice using the current powder extinguishers to tackle a big fire. The day ended with a social gathering and a braai in the Café.
With this comprehensive training, the marshals are now well-equipped and prepared for any situation that may occur on track throughout the year.
