Prologue penalty hands TreasuryONE duo a tough Day 1
Hennie de Klerk and Juan Möhr endured a tough start to Dakar 2024 when the TreasuryONE Motorsport Toyota Hilux T1+ pair incurred a harsh penalty following a navigation error on Friday’s Prologue. It saw them start 191st among the trucks at the back of the pack.
Unperturbed, the Pretoria pair fought back through Saturday’s opening 414 km stage to Al Henakiyah Saturday to come home 117th and 54th among the T1+ Ultimate cars after setting off 69th. “It was unfortunate to pick up that penalty, which made the going extremely tough on Saturday,” Hennie reported. “We had to pass so many trucks and slower cars in rough and dusty conditions.
“So we played it safe, took it one step at a time and made up many good places on Saturday. The car was perfect throughout and we will set off 119th on Sunday. There’s still lots of work to do, but this is not a one-day game and we look forward to continuing to fight back from our lowly start position.
“Special thanks to our wonderful TreasuryONE Motorsport team for a perfect car and all the effort. We will make it up to you and our fans!” Sunday’s 662 km special to Al Duwadimi includes 469 km of racing dirt tracks, with some dune work early on and sandy conditions en route. The 8,000 km Dakar 2024 includes almost 5,000 km of racing.
