Six-time champion Mackie Adlem will take to the circuit for the final time as a competitor in the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars Championship this weekend. Adlem, who announced his retirement from the championship a few weeks ago, heads to Zwartkops Raceway for the final round of the 2023 championship.
While Adlem had hoped for an unprecedented seventh title in what has become fondly known as the “Rolling Thunder,” the Randfontein businessman has secured the vice-champion position behind newly crowned champion Julian Fameliaris. All that remains for Adlem this weekend is to add to his numerous victories and pay homage to the loyal Pretoria fans expected to attend the Regional Extreme Festival Finale.
“I always knew that the day would come when I had to make a decision on my Mobil 1 V8 Supercars racing career,” said Adlem. “It’s been an incredible run, and I wouldn’t change anything. But as the Lord closes the door on this, I know He will open another. He always knows best, and I always trust His direction. I am still excited to race this weekend, maybe even more than usual as I’d like to go out on a high. Not so much for me but for all the fans that have supported me throughout my career, who have encouraged me and who have come out to watch me race. I’d love to reward them with a good performance this weekend.”
Spectators are encouraged to attend with tickets available for purchase at the gate. Costs are R130/adult, R90/student with children U/12 free. Adlem and Mobil 1 V8 Supercars would like to acknowledge and thank African Group Lubricants for making the 2023 season possible.
