Over the weekend, Mackie Adlem, the six-time and defending Mobil 1 V8 Supercars champion, gave a stunning performance that resulted in him winning the championship’s penultimate round.
Adlem, backed by Adlem Auto claimed a final race victory and two runner-up finishes in the three races held at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday. Despite scoring a hat trick of solid results, Adlem lost some ground to Julian Fameliaris, who took victory in the other two races and led the standings coming into the round. As a result, Adlem relinquishes the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars crown, one he held onto for six consecutive years. Adlem was the first to congratulate Fameliaris once the championship points were confirmed.
“Julian (Fameliaris) is a worthy champion, and I’m extremely happy for him,” said Adlem. “He and his team have worked hard throughout the season, with the Corvette performing well. As both the 2023 championship and my Mobil 1 V8 Supercars career are near their end, I am pleased to know that this series will remain one of the top classes in the country and that a true talent like Julian will be representing it. I can’t thank my team enough. They did everything they could this weekend, and we had an excellent pace, often the quickest out there. It wasn’t easy to pass, however, but it remains one of the best circuits to race at where the crowds are always appreciative. All glory to God. Without Him, none of this would be possible.”
Adlem will return for the final championship round on 17-18 November at Zwartkops Raceway. Adlem and Mobil 1 V8 Supercars would like to acknowledge and thank African Group Lubricants for making the 2023 season possible. Please visit them online at https://aglubricants.co.za/ .
